Views of Gualchos and Surrounding Areas

GUALCHOS - situated on the coastal region of Andalucia known as the Costa Tropical, in the Province of Granada.
1000m above sea level in the Southern Alpujarras;
(the foothills of the Sierra Nevada)

Here is the White Village of Gualchos with Mulhacen, the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada, rising in the background. It is here that you are able to sunbathe on your balcony while seeing the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada behind and the sparkling seas of the Mediterranean below. Gualchos is nestled between sea and mountains; sand and snow affording magnificent views and a diversity of passtimes.

Gualchos has a population of about 900. These are mostly Spanish, although there has been an influx of British and Danish in recent years.

The name Gualchos stems from the Arabic meaning 'hidden springs' and there is pure, spring water flowing from the Mountains to the fountains in and around Gualchos.

Gualchos has a beautiful Moorish Church, with bells tolling twice daily to summon the congregation to Mass; a supermarket, small but well stocked; two bars; an icecream parlour; 'La Fuenta de la Mina', where the ladies used to hand wash the family clothes; a fountain which provides the village with constantly running, mountain spring water; a central Plaza which is the hub of village life and the focal point for its many Fiestas;
